Carrie Johnson, family readiness officer for 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, has long had a love of helping people. She earned her associate’s in early childhood education, her bachelor’s in social psychology and is finishing up her master’s in education. Originally, Carrie’s desire was to become a high school counselor, but life had other things in mind. As a young graduate, Carrie found herself employed as a caseworker for Child Protective Services. The job established in her resiliency, confidence, tough skin and flexibility – qualities that have proved important in her role not only as a family readiness officer, but also as a Marine wife.
The mores and ethos of the Marine Corps are nothing new to this Marine wife of nearly two decades. The couple has been everywhere from Bangkok, Thailand to duty stations across the Unites States. During that time, Carrie raised two children: her daughter now in college in Texas and her son heading into middle school in Twentynine Palms. Throughout her journey, Carrie has developed an enjoyment of sewing, knitting, hosting parties and a new found love of golf. Her ultimate pastime, as many a Marine wife can attest to, is shopping.
As a family readiness officer, Carrie is looking forward to helping build up the families of 2/7. “Every day is a different experience, nothing is cookie cutter,” she said of being a family readiness officer and a military family. “My goal is to help the families here become self-sufficient, help them understand, empower them to move past issues.” She’s always looking for volunteer family members to help out in that process!
