Frontline EOM June 2011
Genara Camat
Business Operations, F&H

by Stephanie Andrews

Former Quick Break customers will notice a familiar friendly face at Charlie’s Coffee House these days. It’s Genara Camat, June’s Frontline Employee of the Month and former Quick Break employee. She moved here from the Philippines ten years ago, and although she misses her beautiful and laid back homeland, she, her retired Marine husband and their nine year old son are enjoying their time in Twentynine Palms.

I sat down with Genara to learn a bit more about her and the work ethic that landed her in the role of Employee of the Month. I found that she not only excels at this job, but another one at Camp Wilson as well. She works 7am to 7 pm, but still manages to always have a smile on her face.

Q. What do you like to do with your free time?
A. I’m a homebody, so I like to be home with my family. As long as I’m with my husband and my son, it really doesn’t matter what I’m doing.

Q. Why do you think you got Employee of the Month?
A. I was really surprised! I didn’t expect it at all. But I’m glad to know that my hard work and dedication are paying off. I guess it would be because I put my best into all that I do. I make sure that I’m worth every penny that I’m being paid.

Q. Who would you say has shaped you the most or had the most influence on your life?
A. It would have to be my husband. We’re partners. Whatever he dreams to achieve, I support him in the same way he supports me. We’re on the same track, side by side.

Q. Do you have any words of advice for fellow employees hoping to excel?
A. Always do the best you can. And don’t think about doing it for other people, do it for yourself. Be proud of what you do. I also think if you don’t hurt anyone in words, actions or thoughts, at the end of every day you feel light, you feel good!

As we were finishing our interview Robert Kelley, the food service assistant manager, walked through the office and realized we were working on Genara’s Employee of the Month article. He said “You only need to put one word - amazing!”
